A Safe Haven for Survivors and Their Pets Blaine, MN, 01/02/2025 – Alexandra House is thrilled to announce the Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony for Linus’ Pet Haven, a groundbreaking addition to its Emergency Shelter program designed to provide safety and support for survivors of domestic violence and their beloved pets. The ceremony will occur on Monday, January 13, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Alexandra House’s Blaine Campus at 10065 3rd Street NE, Blaine, MN. For too many survivors of domestic violence, the heartbreaking choice between their safety and the safety of their pets becomes a barrier to seeking help. Statistics reveal that 71% of women in domestic violence shelters report their abuser has threatened, harmed, or killed a pet, and nearly half delay leaving abusive situations for fear of leaving their pets behind. Linus’ Pet Haven aims to break this devastating cycle by offering pet-friendly accommodations and services that ensure families can escape together. Guests at the ribbon-cutting ceremony will have the unique opportunity to tour the newly renovated pet-friendly units and outdoor pet relief spaces, witnessing firsthand the transformative changes Alexandra House has made to support survivors and their furry companions. “Linus’ Pet Haven is more than a shelter; it is a beacon of hope and a testament to our commitment to comprehensive care for survivors,” said Connie Moore, Executive Director of Alexandra House. “We believe no one should have to choose between their safety and their beloved pet, and this initiative ensures they won’t have to.” In addition to celebrating this milestone, Alexandra House welcomes community support through donations of pet supplies, such as toys, collars, leashes, and beds, or through monetary contributions to sustain the program. This project has been made possible through the generous contributions of our community and partnerships with local businesses, including veterinarians, pet suppliers, and rescue organizations.
